Comments...Stories

I just wanted to remind everyone that...there tends to be a lot of "chatting" going on in the comments :-D

What can I say I love to talk about Corb!!!

I have to share a silly story...inside a bad story...I had to bring Corb to the doc today...his bum hurts from having to have a suppository 2x daily...also his tube site is hurting badly again...what next for the little man...OK so the silly part...the front desk/scheduler girls LOVE Corb...If you can imagine...I was explaining Yo Gabba Gabba to them...well I had them roaring...a nurse came to the front asking...what's all this laughing...as soon as she seen me...she said oh...now I know why....I threw my arms up in the air...it wasn't me :-P

Then I had them all laughing when I said...my saying is...I might be a nut case, but at least my kid is back!!!

Everyone loves him so much....one of Corbie's follows from around here...sat & said hi for a minute...while Noah & I were waiting for his eye appointment...he has sty

Oh yeah...In the elevator today there were like three women & two guys...Corb couldn't keep his eyes off the women...I make the comment...he loves ladies...the all giggled

I'm feeling much better as you can tell, THANKS again

What a toad

Corb moves around the floor a lot now so I had to put up some padding.

Solved.....

Caradie and Corbin

Decided to share....

Hi everyone,

I don't want to bring my personal life to Corbie's blog but I wanted to share another reason I have been lacking in posts.

Bill (husband) & I are not doing to well in our marriage so that's a huge part of the sadness lately.

I did take some videos & pics...hope you all enjoy. I will get out of this rut soon. Just bear with me. I know how much Corbie means to you all :-D THANK YOU

Here's Corb talking to his show.

Here's Corb laughing at opening up his Christmas present. He used to be totally scared of paper, this year he did so great!!!

A new onesie.

One of the days he didn't feel good, I propped him up so he could breath.

Emotional

I have been pretty emotional the past few weeks. That's why I haven't been posting much. (Thanks Darlene for checking in on me) There's just so much going on, that it's hard to think straight enough to write.

I almost never get sad about what Corb can't do, but the other day at Wal-Mart, while Bill & I were shopping BY OUR SELVES I seen a little boy about 2 & he had his boots on the wrong feet, it just made me so sad that Corb will never be able to make cute mistakes like that. See now I'm tearing up again.

Everyone have a great Christmas if I don't post again by then.

New bedroom

I have made another new decision that was very hard for me. As most of you know Corb has been sleeping right next to me (in his bed) for a long time, well since he's getting heavier & longer/taller, I decided to put his new bed downstairs & make his therapy room into his bedroom too.

Take a look...

Relief!!!!

I haven't cried like this since his accident. Needless to say my sinus' are going to hurt real bad tomorrow.

I had all the weight lifted off my shoulders, in just one phone call.

Mr. Murphy (the one I love) does all the pump upkeep personally.

I already cancelled the appointment with the SMDC doctor (the one I don't love).

Corbin will be receiving the Baclofen pump with in a few months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your help.

Sweet Sweet Darlene

I know I said I was going to answer each comment on the comments page but I believe this post is to special to just stay there.

Caradie,

God created beautiful creatures and one of the greatest gifts he created was Corbie. Your beautiful boy has a way with pulling at my heart strings and leaving some huge imprints. So I guess I have to say is, thank you to Bill and you for sharing Corbie with me.....Darlene

Darlene,

OK now I'm crying.

Corb sure means a lot to me & I believe part of the reason why he was given back to me, was to teach everyone something threw his spirit.

Corbin has a way about him that, as long as you have the capacity to let him, he will draw you in deeply.

EVERY where we go Corbin is loved, Wal-Mart, doctor offices, his colleges & especially here on-line where you all get to really know his true self through me & his videos.

THANK YOU all for continuing to keep close tabs on my (our) sweet boy.

figured out some stuff

Well I have come to one decision, that I'm about 80% sure Corb will be getting the pump but.... by who & when is very up in the air, because with Murphy I don't know who will be dealing with the pump after it's placement & the other doctor from SMDC is... well not my favorite doctor.

So as soon as I figure out who the right choice is, to have my son in their hands, then we all will know the final decision.

Thanks Ladies We love ya

decision...decision...

I made two appointments today, one with physical medicine/rehab to talk about the pump issues (not until Feb though) & the second appointment was for the evals with PT, OT & ST (I know this ST she's awesome) at the new place.

Also this month he has a well child check with his peds & an appointment with his ortho. And then his neuro, at the end of Jan. All of which have always felt strongly that the pump would be right for him, so I will have many people to help me make this decision, including you all THANK YOU!!! Sadly the decision it going to take longer then I had planned. If I do decide to do this for Corb I would like it to be done fairly soon because he needs to be all healed & ready to work his little butt off before Sept when he will be starting school (w/me of course LOL)

Well anyway I'm going to bring a CD of the videos I took during the test so all the doctors will have a real way of judging how the test went.

Need to ramble

So...I'm going to just be rambling here so bear with me.

Some of the things I'm trying to work through to figure out if this will be right for him, are he had double the dose he would normally get. I don't know if I feel he was loose enough for it being a double dose & he seemed very sleepy, was it because he had been sedated or because he was up 3 times that night before & up by 5:30am that morning or was it because he had to lay flat for 4 hours & was bored or was it the medication. I guess I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to play with him more, I mean I understand now, why but I didn't ever know before that morning that he would have to lay flat for 3-4 hours. It did seem to be so amazing for the most part though, he was so loose & just so comfortable. He was a wonderful boy, he just laid there on his bed watching the portable DVD player our neighbor let us borrow. I laid him on each of his sides & he didn't even need anything to hold him up onto his sides. He was still giggly but not like normal.

The PT was suppose to stop by every hour, at first he was there a lot then he never came back. Dr. Murphy said it was a positive dose. I have an appointment with the surgeon & then with Dr. Murphy the Tue after that so I still have time to keep figuring out if it's right. It's just to HUGE of a risk to take if you aren't TOTALLY sure. And like Amy said it loosens every where so with his trunk being too loose in the first place it was harder for him to hold himself up but then again maybe he just needs to get used to it. I know that if we decide to go with the pump he will be a totally different child but I don't want him drugged, he just seemed so blahhhh. Also with him being a different child with the pump, I'm working on getting intensive therapy for a few weeks & then all therapies 2x a week & then also school next year. As I have said a million times our state medical assistances isn't the greatest. I have decided that I'm done trying to work with St. Luke's for his therapies, I have called Corbie's doctor & requested a referral to some where else. After thinking & talking to my councilor I have also decided to get a referral to see the doctor that would do Baclofen pumps here. See what it is, is that Dr. Murphy is affiliated with St. Luke's & all the rest of Corbie's doctors are through SMDC so it's hard to know what to do because now I'm leaving the therapy there & I wasn't pleased with St. Luke's for the trial much either but Dr. Murphy has been a great doctor so I'm torn there too. UGH!!!

The test dose lasts about 8 hours but he was still looser then normal 12 hours later.

Would like feedback

After you guys watch his videos will you all give me you opinions of what you see???
(there's to much video to upload here so check them out on dropshots http://www.dropshots.com/BabyCorbin)
The reason I want every ones opinions is because I'm very torn. I need help & I need to work threw all the feelings & pros & cons. UGH!!!

I said I was going to tape every hour well I kinda feel asleep while Corb was watching his show & then needed lunch but I got the first few hours & then at 5 & 1/2 hours I taped a lot.

Baclofen Pump Trial

Tomorrow is the BIG day!!!

I, of course will have plenty of video clips. Austin is even coming with to help tape, Shhhh he gets to ditch school.

This whole process of deciding to even go ahead with the pump trial, has been very long & stressing. The talk of the Baclofen pump has been for about 3yrs & with his two parents not agreeing on whats best for him, it becomes a struggle to figure out who's right.

So lets just hope it's me LOL I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happens to him.

More practice w/a spoon

Updating with videos to the blog takes to much time for tonight so please check out http://www.dropshots.com/BabyCorbin

Corb has been practicing eating pudding with his teacher every Tues & he totally knows what to do, it's just his hands/arms don't do what he wants them to do but he's trying sooooo hard.

As you will see I got some scraps of carpet that I patched together to make a softer spot for Corb to play & he loves it. He also loves his new toy rack.

Corb also got a walker he gets to try out for a few weeks. I won't be posting the videos of him in it until I get many days first. I will need proof that he will be able to use it for medical assistance. It's only been two days & he's AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

Real update

Sorry is something doesn't make since LOL I don't feel like rereading it again.

Since Corbie's Nissen Fundoplication surgery there has been a few bumps in the road, his g-tube site got very irritated & one of the little incisions got infected, he was hurting pretty bad, now his tummy is totally healed & he's feeling great but he has started this weird snorting/gagging issues, I won't get into details but after some work I finally got the doctor to listen to me. He's now on Zytec, also less stool medication but that has nothing to do with the gagging. The Zytec is to help loosen up the secretions, so he can swallow them easier. The snorting is still there but the gagging is gone.

Corb has also been doing very well with his home therapies. We started brushing & joint compressions-SI (sensory integration), spinning, swinging, floor time & practice eating different foods again. It feels great to be back in a routine.

Monday 11-3, we had an appt with one of Corbie's doctors & we have decided to go ahead with the Baclofen Pump trial. The trial is scheduled for Dec 1st I'm VERY excited & a little nervous, the trial is around here but the doctor wants the actual pump placement to be be done in the Cities (3 hours away). On Monday 11-10, I decided to call the doctors office, I left a message stating that I wouldn't be able to make it to the cities ever, because on Wednesday 11-5, we went to Hudson (3 hours away) & the check engine light came on & was on just about the whole ride home so I won't be driving that far away anymore, well the doctor personally called me, we talked about why I couldn't make it down there & he said he wants whats best for Corbin & the doctors in the cities are whats best so he said I promise you, I will get a ride there & back. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (the family & child social worker from the hospital in the cities already found us a ride when ever we need it)

The reason we went to Hudson on Wednesday was because a very special lady, we know was able to get Corbie a special fund & we choose to use the funds to go back down to Hudson for evaluations, home programming & then some therapy equipment, that would help with the home program the therapists come up with. I haven't ever posted about this yet because I wanted everything to play out first. So the evals are done, now we just wait to find out about the equipment.

Another thing going on is that at St. Luke's where Corbin goes to for therapy, as of yet he still only gets OT. PT & ST have been trying to get coverage from Medical Assistance for a year now, with no luck. I talked to the ST that would have Corb if it ever gets approved & he said he wasn't comfortable doing feeding therapy anyway so Corb had an eval with the other ST there & we will see if she can get him approved.

And I also have been in contact with an advocacy place in WI & we now have an attorney to help fight the screwed up system. I have also decided that if this other ST can't get things approved, we are going to have to go to another facility.

One thing I learned in Hudson that I think will be a big help is, if Corb does get the pump, there's something called “New episode of care” that should make him more inclined to receive, more intensive therapies so we will be shooting for PT, OT & ST each 2x a week right away (after he feels better after the surgery). I'm going to demand he get better services because he will need to relearn everything he knows now & MORE & I'm only one person.

Now for sleeping...
As I said in my earlier post Corbie did great last night & just about every night now he might fuss a little but he totally falls asleep on his own. (Besides last night) he was still waking at least once a night. I'm hopeful that this awesome behavior will continue!!!!!

Oh one more thing our new worker seems to be a nice girl & I'm hopeful that she will work out.

Caradie & Corbin

Sleeping

I promise a full update is coming soon but I still haven't finished it, since we got the 2 hours back of our PCW hours, I'm training in a new girl so I don't have time to even think LOL

Anyway, I had to share last night.
I have been doing a whole little routine at bedtime & then telling him good night & that I'm leaving & well last night he gave this cry face he does, just saying hey I ain't OK with this, but he never started to cry, he never did cry at all & he fell asleep within 30 mins & then about an hour after he was sleep, I did need to come in to roll him back onto his side, (when he gets mad he flips onto his back & he only like to sleep on his sides) & well then guess what... my sweet boy slept until 5am & fell back to sleep right away until 7am WOW!!!! What a great night sleep. He almost always wakes up at 2am & sometimes even at midnight too.

Sweet friend thank you again for the weighted blanket. I for sure think it's helping, I also think he understands he's a big boy now :-)

He's downstairs right now belly laughing at the TV. What a nut.

Weighted blanket / comment

Just wondering.......what is a weighted blanket and why would it help Corbin sleep?? Thanks......you are in my prayers.....nanci Posted by Anonymous

A weighted blanket is just like those weights for you ankles when exercising. It has been found that children with sensory issues benefit from a weighted blanket, as it gives them a sense of comfort. You know how when a baby is first born & for a few months you swaddle them in a tight blanket well I guess this is kinda the same thing.

Please always feel free to ask questions.

I asked a wonderful friend of mine (that is very good at sewing) if she could make Corbie a weighted blanket, since he has such a time sleeping I thought maybe that would help, well she didn't feel comfortable making him one, so she she bought him one.
Isn't it sooo cute
Thank you friend!!!

Going to bed on his own

So today with Mrs. Heather (Corbie's early head start teacher) we worked on my goals. I told her I want to still stick with putting Corb to bed on his own. We also discussed the fact that I have been just staying in the same room & her BIG push was maybe I should just leave after I say goodnight, well I himmed&hawwwed about it forever LOL & I finally gave in LOL

So guess what? I did exactly that. I sat him on my lap & explained everything to him, that he gets to have his pretty music & his pretty lights & that momma was going to go down stairs & well he's sleeping, it took only about an hour & he only cried for a few seconds. I think it was because his light show toy stopped. I'm so totally completely proud of him.

Side note Corbin, Austin & myself are heading to Hudson http://www.specialchildrencenter.com/ tomorrow for an eval with PT & one with OT. I will explain more after the appointments. We will leave at around 11:30am & wont be home until about 9am It's yucky that it's going to be a long day but I'm so excited to see them all again.

Caradie & Corbin

Using a spoon

Corb & Mrs. Heather tried something we haven't tried in a long time, due to Corbie being to tight but he did a great job!!!!

All the marks on his face are where he got the pudding spoon to (ALL by himself).

He was totally freaked out when the pudding flung onto his head

Corbin's new little TV

Bill's dad was getting rid of a TV, so we said sure we can always use another TV. When I found out how little it was I was so excited because I have always wanted a TV for the floor, for when he is playing on his tummy & sitting, so he doesn't have to look up, it makes him exensor tone kick in really bad.

Well the new TV works great.

Today when I had him on his tummy he hardly pushed/wiggled at all & this afternoon I had him on his knees (sitting on his heels) & his arms on the floor & he was doing so amazing, he was balancing well & when I would say whoa your falling he would giggle & he would push a little to help try to catch himself (which he NEVER used to do).

If I had someone to help keep his attention, while doing these activities, I wouldn't have to use a TV LOL but it's working VERY nicely.

Caradie & Corbin

Getting tough, isn't going well

Last night I laid Corb in his bed & sat on my bed, just like the night before, but things didn't go very well. He cried off & on for over an hour. He would stop crying fall asleep & just when I would think I could leave he woke up crying even harder. So I finally took him out of his bed to burp him (only to burp him, really!!! :-D ) well he fell asleep in my arms & only woke up once during the night.

I'm really going to keep trying it's just so hard to hear him scream like that. Spoiled I know!!!!

Clarify & getting tough

Thank you for all the comments, I just wanted to clarify, technically it's not a "new" bed.

Corb has always had this same bed, it's just that daddy build a frame to make it higher for me.

As for everything we don't have money, so we have to think outside the box & make it ourselves.
So now for the exciting/sad part. I have decided it's finally time to get tough on my sweet baby boy. As most of you know I lay with Corb to make him fall asleep well it's time for him to be a big boy & learn to fall asleep without me. SOOOO yesterday I showed him is new bed, laid him in it & explained he was going to go nigh nigh by him self tonight, then last night I just laid him down & sat on my bed & well it took an hour of crying but he did it YEAH!!! He only woke up once during the night & went right back to sleep.

Here's him after falling asleep all by himself. I'm so proud of him (& myself LOL)

Dosen't he look so tiny.

New bed

I was telling Bill yesterday how I wished Corbie's bed was up higher (like his changing bed is) so it was easier putting him in the bed, bending over with 32 # 2 oz of dead/arching weight is just to hard.

Well it's done (I love when I get my way :-D )

I took this pic last night, his like an angel.
I love him so much
Thanks for checking in on my sweet little man!!!

Coincidence or to smart for his own good?

Corb goes to UMD every Thur for the augmentative communication clinic & this last Thur a rep from Dyavox came with their eye gaze system & while the other kiddo was using the system, I commented oh cool there's an icon for "get dressed", Corb could help me get himself dressed because he hates having his shirt put on, well when it was Corbie's turn, he just happened to pick get dressed & guess what he picked, SHIRT. He picked shirt over & over, getting the boy on the screen's shirt on, switching colors & even picking a sweeter. Then when I made him pick something different he found a place in that game to pick a shirt & he did it in that game over & over too.

Coincidence or to smart for his own good?

Birthday party

The party did go very well. Corb was very blah, he didn't seem to be enjoying the water at all, but thankfully (THANK YOU MOTHER) grammy came with so he stayed with her in the room while I played a little longer. It was very late by the time we all went to bed & Corb did great falling asleep. Like normal he woke a few times but always went right back to sleep. We all had a great breakfast & Austin, Noah & Daddy all went swimming again. Me & Corb just watched TV & worked on laying on his tummy, on the bed (then he don't fall over & hit his face).

Austin's plane ride

Austin's class got to go for a free plane ride today.

Mesh feeder

Thank you for the suggestion of the mesh feeder. I did try one right after the accident but he of course wasn't ready for something like that. And now he has tactile defensiveness so I ain't sure he would even let me put it by his face, but I'm going to get one & try.

Thanks again

Teacher time

Corbie has an Early Head Start teacher that comes to the house 1x a week for 1 & 1/2 hours.

Today they played with shaving cream & as you will see he thought it was pretty darn funny.

Corb has been doing very well sitting cross-legged, this video is only a short clip of what he did today. He sat for 10-15 mins with VERY little correction. All I have to do is move his arm back to help him prop himself, but other then that he just sat there while Heather & I did paper work.

He amazes me everyday. I love you little buddy!!

Side note..... I'm totally done trying to teach him to chew, he has choked twice, both times he vomited & scared the heck out of me. My heart just can't deal with that. So we will just work on different kinds of foods but nothen he needs to chew first, well at least nothen he could choke on.

Can you say dumb A$$

Corb was up all night!!! I couldn't figure out why, he was in such a great mood yesterday & his tummy isn't hurting anymore, well this morning I figured out what the problem was. I put his little thumb braces on to tight & his little hands were swollen to about twice there normal size. I just can't believe that I can he such a dumb A$$ sometimes. Needless to say when I took the braces off him this morning he started crying pretty hard & well so was I. I called Bill & he came home from work, looked at them & told me to call the nurse. I put ice on both his little hands & called the online nurse. She told me put ice on them LOL & that if the swelling didn't go down with in 48 hours then he would have to be seen & the left hand was already back to it's normal size by the time I was finished talking to the nurse, so I think he will be fine but man, if it isn't one thing it's another.

Teary eyed

I was feeding Corb his snack (banana's, pudding & a broken in half fruit loops) this after noon & he sure is understanding how to chew. He's even moving the food around in his mouth to get it to his teeth. I was just so proud of him the tears were rolling.

He's feeling a lot better today too, he's VERY noisy.

Caradie & Corbin

Even 3 yrs later

I'm so proud of Corb, he's catching onto chewing very quickly & using his hands a lot more. Even in sitting but I don't have a video of that yet.

Infection

It's an infection under the incision. The doc had Corbie get a shot of antibiotics, half in each leg. Now he's sore there too. He just cried & cried. At least it's over for today.

Caradie & Corbin

Off to the doctor again

Corb has a very large bump under one of the insisions, so we went to the Doc this morning & he wants an ultrasound & the earlies appointment wasn't until 1pm today so I had to drive all the way back home drop Bill off, send pictures to the surgion & send an update & we are off again.

I will update as soon as I know what it is.

Momma's new contraption

I rigged up this right before his surgery so he only got to try it once because I didn't want to get him all excited about walking on it & then have to stop again. So now his tummy is feeling better so he has been walking on it for two days now.

I took video of him walking but I had to take the video side ways & I can't figure out how to rotate them here so go take a look on http://www.dropshots.com/BabyCorbin

He's mostly back to himself. Very happy & silly. Little stinker is still waking up at least twice a night but that's better then all night.

Worse then better

Monday:
I called the doctors office & made an apt for Tuesday @ 4:00pm just in case he was still having a hard time. Well things with him got a LOT worse.

He was pushing very hard all day,

And crying a LOT

And then to top it all off the night was crazy bad.

Again he had a very hard time falling asleep & again every time I moved he would wake up screaming. I finally got him to stay sleeping but then he was back awake at 12:00am

Tuesday: Considering he had only about 3 hours of sleep, he was in a pretty good mood. He was awake all day until around 3:30pm when he fell asleep for about 15Min's in the van on the way to the doctors office.

But now for the good news the doctor & I came to the conclusion that he just had to much stool in him & it was making him uncomfortable, so when we got home I gave him a full cap of Miralax & at potty time he went a LOT. At around 8:00pm he went to sleep pretty good.

And well, guess what, he slept ALL night & I even had to wake him this morning at 8:00am to get out morning started.

He's seeming to be in good mood but I had an appointment this morning so I haven't been with him much YET.

Off I go to go play/work with him.

To who left the comment...

While Austin was still at the skate park he used someone cell phone & called the cops & then called me, he stayed on the phone with me until the cops arrived.

The cops found the kid & charged him with disorderly conduct. I really hope his parents find out what kind of kid he must be.

Sorry Austin but Austin is a little different (because of his disability) so kids find him as an easy target, especially because he sticks up for himself & gets so angry so likely kids think it's funny so they feel they have a reason to keep at him.

Caradie

What is this world coming too???

I'm feeling very upset. Corbie's brothers Austin 13 & Noah 10 enjoy going to the skate park by our house, well a few days ago Austin was sticking up for one of the non-popular kids & he got punched in the eye & then in the back of the head, well then last night it got a lot worse, a different kid pulled out a knife & threatened to slice him.

What is this world coming too???

I don't mean to brag but I have VERY good kids, well mannered, bright, sweet boys & the trouble just seems to find them. UGH!!!

Sorry to vent on Corbie's site.

A note about Corb, he's being very difficult at night. It's so hard to tell if it's something wrong or him just being to spoiled. I will get him asleep & I will try to get up & he wakes up screaming but he's pushing really hard with him tummy so I just don't know if it's because I'm leaving him or his tummy hurts. UGH!!!

I have decided to see how he's acting today & tonight & if he's fine during the day & then acts like that tonight, I'm going to get tough with him & he will have to learn to go to sleepy without momma again. Some of you might remember that I did that last year & he was learning, the crying became less & less but then we went to Hudson & being in a motel I didn't want to wake anyone with his crying so I started holding him to sleep again & it has just never went back to him learning to fall asleep on his own. He does always act like this when he doesn't feel well but I just don't know, so like I said I might have to tough on him again. STINKER

Up screaming & College

Corb was up a lot last night & every time he woke up he would just scream & scream. He was acting like his tummy hurt, like maybe gas.

But now today he's been in a great mood besides some whining (SPOILED), he's been eating great again & even came outside with me while I cleaned up the garage.

Picking him up doesn't seem to hurt him anymore either YEAH!!!

I'm very excited (as long as my van gets fixed) tomorrow is his first day back to college for this school year. This will be his third year going to the PT clinic @ LSC (Lake Superior College) & then in January he will also be going back to the OT clinic @ CSS (College of St. Scholastica for the third year. And then this year is his first year going to the ST clinic (augmentative communication) @ UMD (University of Minnesota Duluth).

He gets OT @ St. Luke's but we are still fighting to get PT & ST.

Roller coaster

Since we got home from the hospital Corb has been really having a hard time with his g-tube site. It's been really hurting him. But yesterday he seemed to be feeling better. Until last night, Corb ending up going to bed really early, like 7:00pm but then was back up around 10:00pm. Normally what happens, if he wakes up, is I sit & hold him to get the burps out & he falls back to sleep but last night every time I tried to lay him back down he would totally freak out again & again, so I brought him down stairs & just sat in the reclining chair & he fell asleep in my arms (spoiled I know) & we slept like that until about 1:00am, I was able to then lay him down on the couch but then he was back up around 4:00am & he was awake all day today (in a pretty good mood) until about 4:00pm when I just couldn't take his crying anymore. I decided he needed to try & take a nap so him & I laid down (he screamed & screamed) but we both fell asleep for an hour. He has been in a pretty good mood now this evening & he was even able to stand up in his foot plate to go potty. And he ate better. He hasn't been eating. The nurse thinks because things are swollen he just don't feel good enough to eat yet.

I just can't wait to get back into a routine & I bet he really can't wait either. I know he's gotta be bored out of his mind but with this much pain, I couldn't hardly even pick him up without him crying. So hoping for a better day.

OH yeah we just spend over $800.00 to fix my van & now the brakes totally went out so that's going to be about another $200.00 more. I hate money!!! Because we don't have any LOL

Corb amazes

Today I had the MyTobii rep come out to the house to show Corb & I the system.

As you all know Corb is an amazing boy but today he showed how truly amazing he is. He did everything the rep asked him to do to get the system calibrated to his eyes. He followed directions to look at what we asked him too (without the laser light some of the time). He explored the pages. He even took over when the rep was trying to change something. LOL

Corbin shared today how much farther he can go, in just an hour of playing/working with a system that can talk for him. WOW!!!!!!! What a great day!!!

One symbol he kept looking back at was "not a good day" I don't blame him for saying that over & over. His little tummy is so sore. He's a lucky kid though, he gets to just lay around & watch cartoons all day LOL.

Everything is fine

Corbie's pediatrician called wound care & the lady said it just sounds irritated because of the surgery & all the extra usage of the tube.

So pretty much I was already doing what she suggested. I have a 4x4 gauge pad around the tube site & I was using A & D ointment, the only difference is she suggested desitin.

Corb's doctor did agree to half formula & half pedialyte for a few days. Also what I'm going to do is run a tube feed during the day tomorrow too, since his crazy busy schedule don't start until next week.

Off to the doctor

I talked to the surgeon's nurse today about some problems Corb seems to be having since we came home.

He's gagging,
having trouble swallowing,
he won't eat,
his tummy is gurgling,
his tummy is upset,
his g-tube site is almost for sure infected
& he hasn't went poo much (which is kinda normal).

So she explained that the gagging, trouble swallowing & not wanting to eat, is because things are still swollen (she said swelling peaks 7-10 days after surgery) & the tummy gurgling is from the excess air because he's trying to get used to the new feeling & learning to burp with things being different, so right now his tummy is very active.

So for now I'm leaving his g-tube vented.

The nurses had this niffy way to keep a g-tube venting without making a mess. You take a 10cc syringe, wrap a plastic glove around it & hook it up to a tube. It works very well. When the glove is full of air or liquid, you can just take the syringe off the end of the tube & empty it.

As for the tummy hurting & the g-tube site seeming to be infected, she wants me to bring Corbie to his primary pediatrician. But she did say the site does sound infected & that maybe his tummy hurts because it's just not ready for so much tube feeding formula. (I decided a while back that I wanted to do an over night feed so I don't have to worry about getting all of his calories in orally so we can work on some new kinds of foods.) The surgeon just had the hospital dietitian start the tube feeds. So the nurse suggested that maybe for now we should do half formula & half pedialyte.
After talking to her I feel so much better. I have been worried about him all weekend.
So we are off to the doctor at 4:00

From the hospital

Corb was pretty blah the whole time he was in the hospital

This is Otis a therapy dog that visit Gillette every Tuesday.

It's he HUGE. He's an English Mastiff

Corb didn't really get to pet him much because he was in to much pain to pick him up so Otis could reach him.

But on Thursday night there was a dog show & because Corb was feeling better & wasn't hooked up to anything anymore we went & stayed after to meet all the doggies.

I have been thinking about getting Corb a service dog & now after that dog show I know what kind. The little tiny Papillon was the sweetest & very smart.

Corb slept all the way home. The second I turned the van off he woke up & was all smiles.

Today's update

Sorry I haven't updated sooner. Corb & I just took a 4 hour nap, it felt great because no one bugged us LOL.

Corb is doing pretty well today I can tell his tummy is really sore but the foot is totally fine.

The surgon came in today & we get to go home tomorrow. I talked to the nurses about leaving right after lunch since it's such a long drive.

Caradie & Corbin

Doing much better..

Corb is such a trooper. He doesn't seem to be having anymore pain in his little foot/leg. He's totally moving it around without the ouch face.

That was a very hard deal to go through for him & I.

His 4 little incisions are seeming to feel better too. He's been put on pedilyte & a soft diet. So for supper he had applesauce, pudding (just a little since he's off dairy) & some juice & right now he's totally out. I just love him so much!!!!!

Caradie & Corbin

Something came up...

Well I said I wouldn't update again today unless something came up well something big came up. I was stretching Corb's leg & his ankle snapped forward, he started screaming in pain, tears were rolling & I was also bawling.

They did 5 x-rays thank goodness nothing is broken. The doc said since he don't seem to be in a lot of pain now we will just leave it but if it's hurting bad tomorrow he can put a splint on it.

I just can't believe it, I try to help Corb & I hurt him. I just feel so bad, I just keep crying.

Caradie & Corb

Today is going well...

We have decided he doesn't need any more morphine so there hasn't been any more rentching. Thank goodness that scares to poo out of me. He has had some clear liquids & most of his normal meds.

So far today Corb has had many smiles & has even been laughing at me & once at Roary from Blue's Room. All the nurses adore him & they don't even get to see his true personality because of the pain & the pain meds. But he's trying to get back to himself.

Corb did also get to see a HUGE doggie last night named Otis, I have pictures I will upload when we get home. He is so cool, Corb didn't really get to pet him because he was in to much pain to be moved so Otis couldn't reach him. But momma had fun. I miss having a dog :-(

Have a wonderful day & I will update again if theres something more today, other wise it will be tomorrow.

Everything is going good

Corb is in his room watching Blue's Clues with the nurse, so I was able to get away to update.

Corb's surgery went well the doc only had to make 4 small incisions. He found a hernia in his belly button so he fixed that too.

Corb is on morphine for the rest of today so he's pretty well drugged. As you all know he's a very smiley boy but only after hours did he finally give me a smile.

One thing very scary did happen, the nurse & I were trying to moisten his mouth & it upset him & he started wrenching I was worried he would rip something. But he seems fine.

That's all for today, thanks for keeping him in your thoughts.

Caradie & Corbin

Short update...

Corb is in surgery right now. I got to bring him back & stay until he was sleepy. I left in tears though. He was arching, gagging & really scared. But I got everything into his room & I'm heading back to the waiting room. Keep him in your thoughts OK.

Thanks Caradie

Surgery Tuesday

I'm so ready for Corb to have this surgery but I'm also terrified. (the surgery is the Nissen Fundoplication)

Corb & I leave tomorrow around 1pm, we will spend Monday night in a motel due to the appointment being so early in the morning Tuesday. The surgery is scheduled for 9am & I think he said it would be only about 20 mins. Then we will stay in the hospital for 3-5 days depending on Corb's recovery.

I really wouldn't be putting him through this if I didn't believe whole heartedly this surgery was what he needs to continue to progress. How can you do lots of therapy when you spit up in you mouth all the time YUMM

Poor baby boy.

Anyway please keep us in mind for the next week or so.

Just wanna scream

Those of you who follow Corbie's story know that, I never let things get me down anymore, well today was a blow. I have been full of emotions from crying, to completely pissed, to hurt.

I got a phone call from the RN who has Corbie's case for the PCW's well she informed me that our state medical assistance cut his whopping 4 hours a day down to 2 hours & 15 mins a day.

We also have not heard about PT or ST services either. MA has been holding us up for about a year now.

Just a very crappy day.

New wheelchair

The wheelchair rep came to therapy today to talk over all the options for Corbie's new wheelchair. I picked candy blue for the color & I think it's going to be a great choice for Corb. I tried to find a pic of it on-line but I couldn't find one. But it's a Zippy Iris tilt in space.

Thanks for checking in on my little man.

Aug 18th long gone...

Tonight at supper Bill looked at me funny & he said sorry for something I didn't say, I told him hold that thought I need a drink, he just followed me to the kitchen so I knew something was up, he had this weird grin on his face & he said sorry again. I ran to the calendar & realized it's Aug 31st 2 weeks past our anniversary (Aug 18th) & neither one of remembered "at all"

That's just crazy too, our anniversary has always been extra special to us because we got married exactly 5yrs to the day, that we started dating.

It's been 18yrs together & 13yrs married.

So very busy....

Things around here are crazy busy. I swear I have been on the phone with doctors, nurses, schedulers & therapist more the past few days then I have in the last three years all put together.

Many things have happened & are happening soon.

Aug 1st was Botox,
Aug 5th was the Upper GI x-ray test,
Aug 6th was OT with Sheila,
Aug 11th was the Dentist to clean his teeth, check them & put on fluoride,
Aug 15th was OT with Sheila,
Aug 18th was a day trip to the cities to see Dr. Faville & Dr. Saltzman the surgeon to discuss the nissen fundoplication,
Aug 22nd was with Dr. Murphy to give an update on everything that's happening – and OT with Sheila,
Aug 25th & 27th was for my finger,
Aug 29th will be OT for me & OT with Sheila

Now for next month.
Sept 5th is to re-check Austin's broken leg – and OT with Sheila,
Sept 8th is an eye check for the brothers,
Sept 9th will be with Heather Corbie's home bound teacher YEAH!!! we love Heather & she will also now be here every Tue for an hour & a half,
Sept 12th is with Dr. Beery for a pre-op – and OT with Sheila,
Sept 15th we leave for the cities,
Sept 16th is the surgery & he will need to stay in the hospital for 3-5 days,
Sept 23rd is here at the house with the MyTobii rep,
Sept 26th is socialization with Heather at the center,

Also Corb was accepted into the UMD eye gaze class, that will be 3 Thur's a month but we aren't sure of the start date yet.

I have contacted the PT dept at the college St. Scholastica to see if they can see Corb so that may be a few days a week too. Then in Jan. he will be seen by a OT there too.

And then for Oct. (so far)
Oct 3rd will be with Dr. Murphy to check how the surgery went & to discuss the Baclofen pump trial
Oct 7th we will be going to Hudson to have an eval to help get everyone on the same page with all Corbie's therapies.

We have also started the process to get Corbie a new wheelchair & we are also working on getting MA to approve OT & PT each twice a week.

Caradie

Momma's turn for OT

I had a weird thing happen to me, so that's why I haven't updated lately.

Last week my ring finger on my left hand swelled to an enormous size, was VERY painful & I couldn't even move it. Then on Sunday I felt sick to my tummy & I started throwing up, my mom came to help out so I could nap & every time I woke up I would throw up again, this happened all day Sunday.

Monday morning first thing I went to the doctor & two doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong so they put me on an anti-inflammatory & by that evening I could at least bend my finger again. Wednesday I seen the one doc again & he said he feels it was just tendinitis & ordered OT because my finger is VERY stiff still but no pain.

Have any idea how hard it is to pick up a wiggly, 33# child with one hand LOL

Austin was a wonderful helper, I gave him $5.00 for helping.

I will update about Corb's upcoming stuff soon.

Camera crazy

I got camera crazy today.

This video is of the new way I have been teaching Corb to look at what I'm requesting.

At UMD they tried this while testing the MyTobii eye gaze system with him, but he had never seen a lazor pointer before so he had no idea what to do. But as you can see he truly understands now. We are hoping to get Corb into the speech clinic at UMD this year. Also the MyTobii rep is coming to our house in late Sept for an eval.

I used Corbie's new tumbleform chair on a computer chair and now he can sit up better and as time has been going on he's getting better and better with head and trunk control.

YEAH Corbie!!!

I used to brush Corb's teeth while he was laying on his changing bed because I needed to pin his arms down. But I tried him in his seat (thanks BabyCharlie) and as you can see he does great. Hopefully over time it will get even better.

Sheila-OT used Kinesio Tape on Corb.

Foot plate

I have a video of Corbin using his new foot plate but because I had to record side ways I can't put the video on here, as I have not figured out how to rotate them.

So the video is on dropshots

Corbin likes to pick up his feet so that's why I made this foot plate. It has been working great, we use it every night. He practices standing and then when he bends down and he goes poo.

Surgery is in our future...

It's official, I have made the decision to go ahead with the surgery. The appointment is Sep 16th (daddy's birthday). We will go down the night before and stay in a motel because we have to be to the hospital by 7am and then he will be in the hospital up to 5 days.

I believe in my heart this will be a life changing event. Who wants to do work when they puke (spit up) in their mouth all the time.

I gotta go to the doc today too. Ugh!! My finger is all swelled up and hurts like mad. Bill thinks it's infected. HOW I do not know. But I will find out.

I will update tomorrow when I for sure decide if I'm going ahead with the surgery and when it will be.

Wal-Mart trip

I thought I would share a cute little story about what happened today.

My mother, Austin, Noah, Corbin & myself went shopping at Wal-Mart, while shopping Corb went poo (all by himself YEAH Corb) so I brought him out to the van to change him (the bathroom changing stations do not work with Corb he's to long & wiggles to much), I told grammy I would just wait in the van for them but changed my mind so Corb & I went back in, I started asking Corb where are your brothers, do you see'em, look for them & he began hysterically laughing, he would calm down & I would ask him, where are you brothers, do you see'em & he would just crack up every single time. He laughed throughout the whole store & ours is a super Wal-Mart. He got twice as many smiles from everyone LOL. We finally found our brothers & then he was all calm again. He even yawned LOL he was pooped from all the laughing.

Corbin's learning to chew (part 1)

I'm so behind on my video updates that I added 3 parts. Look below for part 2 and part 3

Corbin has been eating by mouth since about a year after his accident but chewing hasn't ever come so I have been feeding him toddler treats from Gerber that have been working very well.

This video happens to be cereal puffs (melting kind so he don't choke)

These are the cereal puffs.

Corb also eats these now too. Yogurt melts.

Caradie

Therapy with Shelia-OT (part 2)

Corbin loves his Shelia.

Corbin Lee is always such a happy boy, and boy do the weirdest things make this boy laugh. LOL

Caradie

New fix (part 3)

After three years of using Corbie's g-tube on his changing bed, I finally came up with a solution to holding the feeding tube in the air while the water drains into him (bolus feed).

I shock myself sometimes LOL

Upper GI x-ray

I got a picture of the upper GI test that shows Corbie has reflux.

The white shadow (in the black outline) shows that the water (barium) starts coming back up his esophagus and this is just in a matter of a few minutes.

He spits up many many times a day, there are times that he actually has food particles in his mouth. Yuck sorry to describe in such detail but as I have said this will be the biggest decision I have had to make in Corbie's life. Everything else had been decided for me, like his G-tube, they never like asked me if I wanted him to get a feeding tube it just needed to be done so the Doctors just did it.

Monday, I will see the Doctor that is heading this decision & the surgeon that would actually be performing the surgery. From the input from both Doctors & my own feelings, I will make the final decision & then we will be able to go on with life, one way or the other.

Thanks for checking in on my sweet boy.

Hi Everyone,

No pictures or videos this time, just a medical update.

Corbin, Austin, Noah and myself will be going to the cities (St. Paul MN) to Gillette on Monday to discuss the Nissen Fundoplication http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissen_fundoplication. With the doctor and a surgeon.

This is going to be the biggest decision I have ever had to make in Corbie's life. Everything else has been relatively easy, therapy therapy therapy, whats hard about that.

Very calm day

Corb was very calm today. It's so fun to play/work with him when he ain't all stiff & freaking out.

He loves being in 4-point.

He can sit so well when he's looser. I have a love hate relationship with Botox. It works GREAT but it don't last long.

Part of what I'm behind in telling you all is that Corb had an upper GI (Gastrointestinal Tract X-ray (Radiography) ) http://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info.cfm?pg=uppergi last week. It was positive for reflux. So the next step is to see the Doctor again & a surgen to dicuss the Nissen fundoplication http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissen_fundoplication . This surgery will prevent that reflux from happening & hopefully make him more comfortable. I have always said that I feel a lot of Corbie's arching/pushing is due to his tummy always being upset, from reflux & not being able to potty very well.

YEAH!!! Maggie is back. I have a very sad news to tell you all though, Maggie will not be coming back to work with us. Things did not work out with the scheduling but theres VERY AWESOME news that goes along with the sad, Maggie & I have decided this is a good thing because now we can just be friends without the work relationship being over stepped. I'm so excited to have Maggie back into our lives. Corb took only a few moments & he begain smiling at her so we are pretty sure he even remembers who she is.

Botox day

Corbin has been getting Botox injections about every three months since shortly after his accident. We did take a break from it, so it's been at least 6 months since the last time.

Corb loves to watch what everyone is doing.

Until the TV catches his eye.

Corbin gets put under conscious sedation with, versed and ketamine, this is him almost fully sedated.

This machine tells the Doctor that she's in a mucsle before she starts injecting the Botox.

This is one of the many injections.

This is Corb fully sedated.

Heres all of the injection sites.

We checked into the hospital at 6:30am and we were home by 11:30am. They know I know what I'm doing so they just let us leave.

MacGyver in action

The people who know me call me the MacGyver out of the bunch. This is why....

Corb used to walk on the treadmil with just the "standie" holding him up but then I had to hold onto his hips to stablize him. Now, with the walker holding him place & the "standie" still prevents him from arching, he's walking GREAT!!!

Sorry the videos are sideways. I'm still learning blogger.

When it rains, it pours....

Some of you may know Austin (Corbin's 12 yr old brother) broke his leg on the evening of 4th of July right before the fireworkers started.Well now, Noah (Corbin's 10yr old brother) just fell off his scooter and scrapped up his elbow and hurt the other wrist.

As I type they are at the ER, he had an x-ray the wrist is not broken but now the car won't start. My van is FINALLY in the shop. UGH!!!

Bare with me. I'm just learning

Corbin having a bad evening

Hi everyone, I wanted to share one of Corbie's cries.

He has many different sounds, crying, facial expressions & body language for different meaning. This cry is momma you were gone to much today DON'T lay me down, I need you momma. I'm so proud of his that he understand so much & has needs & wants. But BOT OH BOY is he spoiled. Yesterday after I helped Lisa (one of Corbie's PCW's) get set up for massage, I walked away & he whined, I came back & said why are you whining & well I forgot to turn the TV on. He was letting me know HEY!!! my TV please.

I'm really excited about this new way to keep you all informed. Everything is all in one place. Being able to add the pictures & video to where I can talk about what they are too, is AWESOME.

I will still update on too until I figure out how to send out e-mail alerts when I update.

I hope you enjoy Corbie's new site & leave a comment on the guestbook when ever you like. We love hearing from you. Feel free to e-mail any of us, the boys would love to get an e-mail.

Thank you everyone for continuing to follow my sweet boy's progress. It means a lot to us.

Welcome to Corbie's new site!!!!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for coming to Corbin's new website. I have been working on it for about a month now & it's finally ready.

I believe you will find it much more exciting & easier to navigate.

I will still post my updates on caringbridge but being able to just come to www.CorbinLeeProject.com will just be a quicker way to stay updated on Corbin's progress.

Please feel free to contact any of us & please sign the guestbook & let us know you stopped by.

Thank you

New way to find updates

I have decided to start a blog, instead of using caringbridge, for Corbin's updates. I started http://www.corbinleeproject.com/ with the intention of making it so the updates were right on the site but I'm unsure how to do that, so using blogger seemed an easy alternative. Hope you enjoy coming to Corbin's website & getting updates easier.
